AGAN, CHERRY TOMATOES
For AGAN cherry tomato packaging, we developed two different packaging design approaches with a shared objective: maximum product visibility and the clear integration of brand identity and mandatory information. The first solution used a transparent tray wrapped in printed flexible flow-pack film, while the second was developed as a transparent R-PET clamshell with a self-adhesive label applied to the top.
In both cases, the design had to work within specific technical, production and food packaging regulatory constraints: limited available space, barcode and QR code requirements, mandatory labelling, and reliable print reproduction. Rather than allowing these restrictions to dictate the visual result, the design was structured around them, keeping the branding clear and recognisable while allowing the product itself to remain the main focus.
Tray with Printed Flexible Film Packaging Design
The first proposal was based on a rigid transparent tray wrapped in printed flexible flow-pack film. The graphic design was applied selectively to the transparent surface, giving the packaging a distinctive visual identity without compromising the consumer’s direct view of the cherry tomatoes.
The artwork was developed around the actual dimensions and geometry of the pack, taking into account the film’s folding and sealing areas, printing requirements and the placement of all mandatory information. The barcode, QR code and required product markings were incorporated as integral elements of the food packaging design, rather than treated as additional information that simply had to “fit” into the available space.
Selective use of a white underprint behind critical elements ensured the necessary legibility on the transparent film, while keeping as much of the packaging surface as possible clear and unobstructed.
Transparent R-PET Clamshell with Label Design
The second solution was developed for a transparent R-PET clamshell. The pack features an integrated hinged lid with front closures, while the main area available for the graphic design is limited to a recessed section of approximately 150 × 68 mm on the top of the lid.
This compact area had to accommodate the product identity, essential information, barcode, QR code and required labelling without becoming visually overcrowded. The label design was carefully structured through controlled use of colour and white underprint in areas where greater legibility and reliable print reproduction were required.
The transparency of the clamshell allowed the product itself to become an active part of the overall packaging design. The cherry tomatoes, arranged in two clusters of eight, remain fully visible through the R-PET, while the label provides a clear and distinctive branding element. The result combines packaging and label design with strong product visibility, a clear hierarchy of information and a design solution fully adapted to the real technical constraints of the packaging.
